EXTENSION & SUPPORT
The Bible has a wonderful verse for us in Psalm 139 where it tells us that we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made”. We have the same heart for all of our students whether or not they fit “in the box”.
Our approach to learning support is based on the idea that a student learns best within a supportive cohort. Withdrawal from the classroom is only appropriate when the student is struggling to observe their own responsibilities in the classroom and also when there is a specific goal that needs to be achieved before the student can rejoin their cohort.
- We focus on training up our teachers so that they can have plenty of options when they come to an issue where a student does not understand a learning task.
- We use diagnostic tools to define problems in literacy.
- We offer support during examinations for students who need reading assistance or more time.
- Our focus is to provide each student with dignity and respect that they need to go forward in their own learning.
Our teachers are always interested in going further with students who love a particular topic. You will often see teachers and students engaged in discussions during break times. Our co-curricular clubs are another opportunity to “dig deeper” into a topic.
