From the Principal

The Year 2/3 children showed me the lapbooks that they had produced explaining about various insects. They had chosen an insect to research, written an information report and drawn illustrations to make their lapbooks. The children were proud to share their books with the Manoah aged care residents and our assembly visitors.

This got me thinking about why God created insects. Without insects to help break down and dispose of wastes, dead animals and plants would accumulate in our environment and it would be messy indeed. Insects are sometimes underappreciated for their role in the food web. They are the sole food source for many amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.

Without insects, our lives would be vastly different. Insects pollinate many of our fruits, flowers, and vegetables. We would not have much of the produce that we enjoy and rely on without the pollinating services of insects, not to mention honey, beeswax, silk, and other useful products that insects provide.

From spiders to scorpions, ladybugs to bees, there are so many insects that God has created. I am always amazed by how creative God is. It must have taken an incredible imagination to create such a variety of colours, characteristics, habitats and behaviours in these creatures we call insects. I, for one, am grateful for them.

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so...And God saw that it was good.”
Genesis 1:21, 24

Children who have been learning an instrument will perform, and we will farewell our Year 6 student who is graduating this year.

The evening will conclude with a Community Connection ‘Bring and Share’. We ask that you bring along a plate of finger food to share. The P&F will also be holding a cake stall to help raise funds for school resources.

Family and friends are invited to join us.

Carols by Candlelight

Our ACCDD choir will join with two other local schools to lead the community in the City of Armadale Carols by Candlelight. Our choir will also join with community choirs, and be supported by the Armadale City Concert Band.  We would love for you to join us in supporting our children.  Bring an LED candle and come sing along with us.

ACCDD P&F

The next P&F meeting  will be held on Tuesday 13th November at 6:00pm.

Australian Christian College Parents and Friends is a great place to connect with other parents. Meetings are held in the evenings, at a reasonable time (6-7pm), so that working parents can attend, while their children are taken care of.

As well as discussing P&F events, Mrs Burrage shares what has been happening, and also what is coming up in the life of the College. Parents are invited to give feedback and make suggestions to help our ACC community grow from strength to strength.

Community Connections

This week Mrs Watson took the Year 2-6 students to visit Manoah Aged Care Facility. The children sang, played musical instruments with the residents, and even read books to them. A student told me, “After we sang, we stood with an old woman, we hugged her and she taught us how to say good morning in French. There was another lady called Ma who had just turned 101.” Many children remembered her from last year.

When asked about the benefits of spending time at Manoah, another student commented, “It felt good because I don’t get to meet old people very often.”

I am sure that the residents would have been blessed by the joy and energy of our young ones.
