From the Principal
Our part in God’s big story began at creation, when God created man in HIs image to be part of His family. With the free will that Adam and Eve were given, they chose to disobey God, causing a separation from God that seemed irreparable.
Thankfully God is so much bigger than we can ever imagine.
He already had a plan to bridge the insurmountable gap between God and man - sending Jesus. A man, Adam, caused the separation from God, and a man, Jesus, needed to reconcile us to God.
Good Friday is a day when Christians remember how Jesus, who knew no sin, became the sin of the world, even suffering death on a cross. Of course, God’s big story doesn’t end there. There is still so much more to come. I’ll write about the next part when we get closer to Easter.
“God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in Him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public—to set the world in the clear with Himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins He had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in His rightness.”
Parents and Friends
I want to thank you for your responses to the survey regarding the Parents and Friends Association. We had 16 responses, and are now able to plan to meet this term.
Key findings from the survey include:
- Everyone understands about P&F meetings, although 50% of survey participants have never been to a P&F meeting
- There is a keen interest in attending
- Meeting times will be held on a Monday from 6-7pm
- Child minding will be available (pre-booked so we know the ages and numbers)
- Social events, class representation, busy bees and fundraising will be well supported
Term 1, 2018 meeting times are:
Mon 12th March 2018 P&F Information Session - 6pm - 7pm
Mon 9th April 2018 P&F Annual General Meeting - 6pm - 7pm
Private Instrumental Lessons
We are committed to expanding our curriculum so that our students have the best opportunities to learn and grow. Mrs Watson, our Music Specialist, is now organising the private instrumental lesson program, which includes piano, vocal, guitar and trumpet. An expression of interest form was sent out last week, with lessons commencing at the beginning of Term 2. The schedule will be sent to you once the details are finalised.
Students attend Sheffield Shield Cricket Match
At ACC we plan a broad range of learning experiences for our students.
Last year the Year 4-6 students were taught cricket skills through the federally funded Sporting Schools program. As a result, our students were invited to attend a Sheffield Shield Cricket match last week, and participate in a demonstration of cricket skills during the halftime break.
Learning Review Meetings - Week 6
As we partner with you at ACC, we want to stay connected with you about your child’s progress. We have times during the year where you and your child spend time with the classroom teacher to discuss their progress. Learning Review Meetings occur in Term 1 and Term 3 and will take around 10 minutes.
Learning Review Meetings enable you to better understand your child’s strengths and areas to work on from a holistic perspective e.g. academic, personal and social. You will discuss recent assessments highlighting your child’s progress, and you have opportunities to help set future learning goals.
You and your child will be invited to attend a Student Learning Review Meeting to be held in Term 1 Week 6. A roster will soon be sent out by your child’s classroom teacher where you can choose a time slot in which and you and your child come to your child’s classroom.
Because of the need to see all parents, the Student Learning Review Meetings are not the time or place for longer, more in depth, discussion. A separate time should be organised for those meetings.
Coles for Sports
Thank you for all the Coles Sports for Schools vouchers that you have brought in. Keep them coming! When the program ends, we can exchange those vouchers towards sporting equipment to encourage all kids to get healthy and active at school.
Every $10 spent at Coles during the program, will earn a Coles Sports for Schools voucher. The more vouchers our school collects, the more sports gear we could receive. Place your vouchers in the box located in the front office.
Enrolments for 2018
We have places available in our classes.
If you, or your friends, want to be part of the ACC community, we encourage you to bring them along to meet us. Places are available from Kindy to Year 6 (boys and girls).
Follow the link at https://darlingdowns.acc.edu.au/enrolment/enrolment-application.html.
Our Principal, Jacqui Burrage, would love the opportunity to meet with new families.
ACC Playgroup is for children 0-4 years old. Feel free to let your friends and neighbours know they are invited. The ACC Playgroup meets every Tuesday morning 9:00-10:30am. Mrs Watson, our Music specialist, runs a session at 9:00 - it’s not to be missed! For more details, call 9391 1500 or email [email protected].
In School Swimming Lessons
In-term swimming lessons for Year 3-6 students are being held this week and next. Armadale swimming pool is closed for renovations, so we will be going to Gosnells Leisure Centre in Thornlie.
Our P-2 students will have their swimming lessons in Term 4.
Primary Happy Snaps
ACC is a place of wonder and learning, where children are challenged to grow in all areas. They are also keen to share their learning with their parents. Check out this week’s Happy Snaps and ask your child what they learnt.
