From the Principal
Last week I wrote about God’s Creation Story, and referred to Genesis, the first book of the Bible, which described how the earth and humans were formed.
As we read on, we find out that God had given Adam and Eve the freedom to make choices. By the third chapter, they used their gift of free will to choose a path which went against God’s instructions, and they ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. The devastating consequences included a life of hard work and separation from God, not just for Adam and Eve, but for all humans born after them.
The God’s Big Story doesn’t end there. I’ll write about that in coming newsletters. The tragedy that befell Adam and Eve reminds me that my choices have consequences, for myself and others. When I follow God’s instructions, like forgiving those who offend me, or trusting Him in difficult situations, my life is more peaceful and joyful. God gives us the choice.
“No, (my) commands are nearby and you know them by heart. All you have to do is obey! Today I am giving you a choice. You can choose life and success or death and disaster.”
Parents and Friends
Join a group of ACC parents, called the Parents and Friends Association, who meet once a month to discuss how to best support our ACC community. Being part of the P&F gives parents opportunities to stay connected, make friends, keep informed about what’s happening, plus offer suggestions for improvement.
Next P&F Meeting
Tuesday 20th February 2018
7:00pm - 8:00pm
You would have received a survey, the results of which will help inform the best times to hold the P&F meetings. You will be notified of the dates and times once they have been determined.
The School Uniform
The school uniform is a symbol of the College and is standard across all of the Australian Christian College campuses. Wearing our school uniform correctly is not only a key life skill but it also plays an important role in developing a positive culture within our school by fostering a sense of unity and equality amongst our student body.
We ask that you support us and encourage your children to wear the College uniform appropriately and with pride. This includes travelling to and from the College or its activities.
ACC is continuing its partnership with the Confucius Institute of University of Western Australia to host Chinese nationalists.
The students benefit greatly by having a native Mandarin speaker who can converse with them two days a week. They are also exposed to a different culture, opening their experiences beyond the local ones.
This week we met our two new Mandarin tutors:
Monday Jiahui Ni
Thursday Hannah Huang
Bibles for South Africa
Our students have an opportunity to shine God’s light into the lives of young people in South Africa. Fundraising events, organised by the Year 4-6 class throughout Semester 1 will provide Bibles and biblical resources for students in South African Public Schools. It takes just $7 to provide a complete pack (Bible and Choose Life resource), a small investment that has the ability to bear the greatest return – a life transformed by the power of the Gospel.
Ben Evers, Bible League’s Development Officer in Perth, will be a guest speaker at our next assembly, Friday 23rd February, to tell us about this important work.
Learning Review Meetings - Week 6
As we partner with you at ACC, we want to stay connected with you about your child’s progress. We have times during the year where you and your child spend time with the classroom teacher to discuss their progress. Learning Review Meetings occur in Term 1 and Term 3 and will take around 10 minutes.
Learning Review Meetings enable you to better understand your child’s strengths and areas to work on from a holistic perspective e.g. academic, personal and social. You will discuss recent assessments highlighting your child’s progress, and you have opportunities to help set future learning goals.
You and your child will be invited to attend a Student Learning Review Meeting to be held in Term 1 Week 6. A roster will soon be sent out by your child’s classroom teacher where you can choose a time slot in which and you and your child come to your child’s classroom.
Because of the need to see all parents, the Student Learning Review Meetings are not the time or place for longer, more in depth, discussion. A separate time should be organised for those meetings.
Coles for Sports
During the Sports For Schools program, you will be able to collect Coles Sports for Schools vouchers for ACCDD from Coles stores across Australia. When the program ends, we can exchange those vouchers towards sporting equipment to encourage all kids to get healthy and active at school.
Every $10 spent at Coles during the program, will earn a Coles Sports for Schools voucher. The more vouchers our school collects, the more sports gear we could receive. Place your vouchers in the box located in the front office.
Enrolments for 2018
It’s not too late for your friends to enrol their children.
If you, or your friends, want to be part of the ACC community, we encourage you to bring them along to meet us. Places are available from Kindy to Year 6 (boys and girls).

Our Principal, Jacqui Burrage, would love the opportunity to meet with new families.
ACC Playgroup started with a bang this week with 6 families enjoying a great morning together. Mrs Watson, our Music Specialist, ran a little movement and rhythm session, while parents joined in. ACC Playgroup is for children 0-4 years old. Feel free to let your friends and neighbours know they are invited.
Primary Happy Snaps
ACC is a place of wonder and learning, where children are challenged to grow in all areas. They are also keen to share their learning with their parents. Check out this week’s Happy Snaps and ask your child what they learnt.
In School Swimming Lessons
In-term swimming lessons for Year 3-6 students will be held this term in Weeks 6 and 7. Armadale swimming pool is closed for renovations, so we will be going to Gosnells Leisure Centre in Thornlie. Your child’s teacher will be giving you more specific information in the next week.
Our P-2 students will have their swimming lessons in Term 4.
