From the Principal

Last week’s Year 4-6 camp was a time of challenges and triumphs for all who attended.

The Camp began with the interschool Numero competition held at Manning Primary school. We made history by being the first ACC DD teams to compete. After lunch we went to serve at a local Childcare Centre, where we played, read books, helped with afternoon tea, and made some new friends, before heading back to school to change and freshen up.

The Camp activities continued with a Community Connection quiz night, with a devotion and movie to finish the first day. Mattresses and sleeping bags made the overnight stay at school comfortable for all.

We shared breakfast the next morning, followed by some team building games. Kayaking at Champion Lakes was a challenge for all students as they paddled into very strong winds. It was great to see the proud faces of those who faced their fears, didn’t give up, and overcame them.

We really appreciate Miss Yong for organising an excellent experience for the children.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Celebrating Success

A key part of the Australian Christian College learning journey is to celebrate children’s success. One of the many ways we do this is to present certificates to those students to acknowledge their achievements. Classroom teachers observe their students and reward those who are demonstrating excellent academic and character traits with certificates. The certificates are presented at the assemblies.

We congratulate the following students who received a certificate last week.

Jury Cagoco, Aaryn Vin, Jenessa Cagoco, Rhythm Sran, Rishitha Sudhakar, Taylah Reading, Noah Tshado, Micah Bywaters, Teava Sword-Toa, Shem van der Pols, Rebekah Sorensen.

Gardening with Team from Bunnings

On Wednesday 15th November the students will be involved in a day of gardening with the Team from Bunnings. Bunnings is kindly donating soil, plants and mulch to set up a new garden bed along the front wall of the school. All students are asked to come to school on the day in gardening clothes, and to bring a pair of gardening gloves, a hat and sunscreen. Parents are also invited to come along and participate in the day, and we look forward to seeing you there. We will be commencing at 9.00am. It promises to be a fantastic team building experience.

Christmas Concert

Keep Monday evening, 4th December, 6.00pm-8.00pm, free to come to our Christmas Concert, being held at Byford Baptist Church, on the corner of Stanley Street and South Western Hwy, Byford. We’ll celebrate the birth of Jesus, the children will be performing on stage, book prizes will be given out to selected students from each class, and we’ll share a supper afterwards. Watch out for your invitation.

Choir visits Manoah Homes

Last week Mrs Senanayake took our ACC choir along to Manoah Homes Aged Care Facility. The students sounded amazing as they sang through a large repertoire to the delight of the elderly residents. After the performance, the students spent some time with the ladies and gentlemen. Together they chatted, coloured detailed pictures, played games and completed jigsaw puzzles. We are very proud of the kind and gentle way the students made new friends.

Megan, a Therapy Assistant at Manoah Homes, was impressed with the level of maturity that our students showed in talking with the residents. She wrote, “Some conversations can be challenging! Give the students a big round of applause from us at Manoah.”

Thank you Mrs Senanayake for organising such a memorable event.
