From the Principal
Have you ever wondered about those things we can’t see, but know they exist? I’m thinking about gravity, magnetism, the future, and even our thoughts. We can’t see any of them, but they all have a profound effect on our lives. As parents who have experienced a lot, we tell our children about things that we know to be true, and we want them to believe us, even though they have not had those same experiences.
To me, that is the essence of faith - believing that which we can’t see with our own eyes. God tells us in the Bible about Himself, His love for us and how valuable we are to Him. I might not be able to see Him, but I choose to believe what He says.
Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God
I am currently preparing the application to extend our College to have Pre-Kindy to High School, beginning in 2020 with Pre-Kindy and Year 7 students. Part of this application requires that we establish a need for these extra years. This week your child will be bringing home a survey asking for your comments. I would greatly appreciate as many surveys as possible to be returned by 18th August.
We love our amazing ACC community, and we want to share this with as many families as we can. We are a place where children are well-known, well-loved and well taught. If you have any family, friends or neighbours whose children would benefit from attending ACC, please let them know about the upcoming campus tours.
Reading at ACC
At ACC, we believe that reading is an important part of children’s development. To show this, we are joining with schools around Australia to celebrate National Book Week from 19th to 26th August. We invite you to see what our community has done to prepare for it.
Come and see the Book Cubby, borrowed from the Armadale Library, which has been set up in the newly decorated ‘Learning Centre’. We are proud of the Year 4-6 students who have worked hard on various parts of it.
There will be opportunities to purchase books from our Scholastic Book Fair. More details will follow as to when and how children will be able to choose and buy books, posters and stationery. If you would like to help make this Book Fair the best ever, please contact Joan at Reception.
National Book Week will conclude with an Assembly on Friday 26th August, where children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book. They must bring along that book to share with everyone.
Earn and Learn
You can help our school by collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Points. Just collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Points when you shop at Woolworths. We will redeem these for awesome educational resources for our school.
Simply pop them onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheet and once it’s completed, just bring it back to the ACC office. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. Products in the range include resources for Mathematics, English, Science, Art & Crafts, through to Sports equipment, Library supplies and more.
We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please talk to Joan at reception.
Last Wednesday we had our first Term 3 Community Connections. CCs are held at different times during the term and are an important way to stay connected with the ACC community. Community Connections involve meaningful interactions with the Principal, staff, other ACC parents, as well as students. Although small in numbers, the parents who braved the chilly weather took part in some great discussions about how well we have progressed since last term. Elise Marshall worked with the children as they painted ceramic tiles which will be used to enhance the front of our Early Childhood building.
Keep Friday 22nd September from 6:00pm - 7:30pm free and come along to the next Community Connection, where parents and children will have fun together.
Enrolments for 2018
If you, or your friends, want your children to be part of the ACC community in 2018, we invite you to complete an enrolment form here. Places are available from Kindy to Year 6 (boys and girls).
Mrs Burrage will be conducting interviews with parents and their newly enorolled children early Term 3.
Parents and Friends
The ACC Parents & Friends met last week and discussed a number of ways that they might add value to our school community, including some fundraising ideas, such as holding a Father’s Day stall and swapping aluminium cans for cash. If you would like any more information, or feel you could give some time to help, please contact Elise Marshall on 0408 953 400.
The next P&F meeting is Tuesday 22nd August 2:45-3:45pm to prepare for the Father’s Day stall. Come along and be part of this amazing group of parents.
Casual Cleaner needed
The school is currently seeking applications for a cleaner to work 3:30pm-5:00pm, starting at 3 days per week in Term 3, with the possibility of increasing days in Term 4. This position is casual, and will commence Monday 21st August. Applications close Thursday 17th August. Please contact Joan in the office for more details.
Let’s Recycle and Reuse
We have some terrific artistic projects planned for our school. One project, directed by Elise Marshall, will be to make a cross from our community’s handprints, to be hung up outside the front office. To help us in these projects we will be asking you to bring in some recycled materials.
