From the Principal

I have just returned from Erina in New South Wales where I had the opportunity to meet the Australian Christian College leadership team. This included Board members, Principals and Deputies from the six on campus ACC schools across Australia, plus those leading ACC’s Distance Education departments.

We all shared our opportunities and challenges, and it was wonderful to spend time praying with, and for, each other. God created us for community. The Bible says:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together...but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching”.
(Hebrews 10:24-25)

Introducing Scholastic Book Club

At ACC we want your child to be really excited about reading, both at school and at home. The more your child practices, the better they will read. We would all agree that learning to read has so many benefits, including gathering information, hearing other people’s stories and even relaxing.

To help you and your child, we’re bringing in the Scholastic Book Club system. Every month your child will bring home a Book Club catalogue from which books can be purchased. You order online, and the books get delivered to the school. The school will not process cash or cheque orders. Follow the link to start using the online LOOP ordering system.

Every book that you purchase will also give our College 20% reward points to enable us to increase our reading resources.

Community Connection

We celebrated the special women in our lives at a Mother’s Day assembly. After the assembly the students escorted their mum, or other female relative, into their classroom to participate in fun activities including nail painting, biscuit decorating and a photo booth. The celebrations concluded with a special morning tea.

Story Dogs Initiative

Story Dogs is a unique reading support program helping students to become life-long readers.

Our school would love to have this running at Darling Downs. Teachers love this program, the students can’t wait to read and I have personally seen how well the program works.

Do you, or someone you know, have a dog that is well behaved, gentle and is happy around children? Can you, or they, spare a couple of hours a week? If so, I have a Volunteer’s Pack with more information for you in deciding if this is something that you, or they, would like to bring to our school community. You can find out more at Story Dogs.
